East of the River Reads - 2008

This year the East of the Rivers Committee has selected Billy Boyle by James R. Benn as the book for the region to read. Copies of the book are available at all participating libraries and local book stores.

Billy Boyle is a Boston Cop, from a family of Boston cops, who prefers walking the beat in Southie to fighting the Nazis. Billy's mother lands her son a seemingly soft jab as a detective with "Uncle Ike's" staff in London. It appears as though you Billy is in over his head when it turns out that the murder of a Norwegian dignitary may have been the work of the spy himself.

Billy Boyle was a finalist for the 2007 Dilys Award - awarded by the members of the Independent Mystery Booksellers Association to mystery titles that member booksellers have most enjoyed selling.

Mr. Benn, a Connecticut resident, is a member of the Mystery Writers of America and the Author's guild. He holds a Master's degree in Library Science and has worked in the library field for over 25 years. He will speak and sign books on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the Welles-Turner Memorial Library, 2407 Main Street, Glastonbury, CT.
